Although there is no dissimilarity in the religious beliefs, manners and customs of the different classes in Lakshadweep, they have been detached by communal barriers.

In some islands, Melacheris are not authorized to carry out the ritual of Ratheb in certain mosques. Old practices like prohibition against the use of chappals, holding umbrellas and singing have been removed.
